Primped 365 Guide To Your Breast Cancer Journey

  • Step 1: Call us to make an appointment and provide your insurance and medical information. We will request the prescription, insurance approvals, etc. and notify you of what your insurance will cover. That process typically takes up to two weeks so we generally book your appointment two weeks in advance.

Step 2: Come in for your appointment and get your post surgical camisole. Some surgeons/hospitals have a preferred garment for immediately post-op and some will even provide one for you.

  • Step 3: After you are fully healed, at least 4 weeks post-surgery or once you are cleared by your doctor, you will come in for a second appointment. Please book accordingly, two weeks is required every time for us to check insurance/medical information.

Step 4: It is time for a fitting! Come in, fill out a patient intake form and then your personal fitter will work with you to pick out bras that fit your lifestyle and needs along with breast prostheses for projection and symmetry. Please note all of our bras are without underwire.

Step 5: At the end of your fitting, you will sign a ticket at checkout that then allows us to submit a claim to your insurance. If you owe any co-insurance, you will pay at that time. You will then leave with your items that same day.

Step 6: Go out into the world confidently! You will be due for products through your insurance one year from your appointment. Feel free to reach out anytime if you ever need anything or have any questions!

  • Soft Cup Bras have multi-part cups, inner support slings and wide comfort straps to provide structure and support, even for fuller breasts.

Molded Cup Bras, often called Tee Shirt Bras, are great options for a smooth look. The mold to body fabric delivers a smooth look and a natural shape and offers everyday comfort and a secure fit. We have styles for full, average and shallow busts.

Mind

One of the most important aspects of this journey is to take care of your mental health. This can be just as important as your physical health and along with having a nurse navigator and trusted doctors by your side; you need to have a support system outside of your treatment. Please ask your doctors about support groups and mental health assistance. Primped 365 cannot stress enough that reaching out to friends and family can make all the difference as you go through this process.

5 Ways To Prioritize You

  1. Increase your positive emotions..we are usually stretched thin by demands on our time. We nurture and care for everyone else but fail to make ourselves a priority. It’s time to put YOU on the calendar and make a date for fun!

  2. Release suppressed emotions. Get rid of the fear and then take action.

  3. Take control of your health..knowledge is power. Don’t stop here; learn all you can to protect your overall health during your journey.

  4. Have strong reasons to LIVE..determine your personal ‘why’ in life and visualize it each day.

  5. Deepen spiritual connections..incorporate mind, body and spirit into your everyday life. Spend time reflecting and embracing an attitude of gratitude.

Body

  1. After surgery you may have drains placed and/or open incisions that need to be cared for properly. The risk of infection is real and very common. Please be sure to ask your doctor for instructions on your care and ask questions if you have them.

  2. Lymphedema is also a common occurrence and something to keep an eye on. Watch for swelling and talk to your doctor if you have any concerns. You may want to request that measurements be taken prior to your procedure. Be sure to do any and all exercises prescribed to you.

  3. When do you start wearing bras and forms? This process will start when your doctor allows you to come in for a fitting; usually 4-8 weeks after your procedure. We ask that you are fully healed, without any open wounds, bandages, or swelling prior to your appointment. A prescription is also required if you wish to bill insurance as well as clinical notes.

Questions?

3D Areola & Nipple Restoration

  • As everyone has a different pain threshold, this is a difficult question to answer. The majority of areola placement sites have no feeling. But, should nerve endings have feeling, a topical numbing agent will be used before, during and after the procedure ensuring client comfort.

  • It is important to ensure the breast mound is stable, in its final position and incision sites have healed. It is recommended to wait at least 8 weeks from when the last breast reconstruction has been done or as approved by your physician, but no sooner than 8-12 weeks.

  • At least two appointments. The initial appointment to lay the foundation of color and a second “perfection” appointment to add depth of color and any finer characteristic details. Depending on the condition of the skin, amount of scar tissue, medications and if treatments such as radiation have been used, a third appointment may be necessary.

  • In a perfect world, yes. However, like eyebrows, they are sisters and not twins. There are variables and considerations to account for that will impact color retention and the final result such as: the type of reconstruction, scar tissue, radiation on one or both breasts, difference in skin from one breast to another, different medications (for example morphine), your sleep position.

  • Due to the lack of UV exposure, in most cases, you may not need a touchup for 10 years or more.

  • No. Regardless of how thin you feel your skin is, you have the same layers as everyone else. The pigment is implanted just below the epidermis into the top dermal layer so your implant is safe.

  • The color will fade and soften, especially during the first 30 days of epidermal cell turnover. Variables that effect color include sun or UV exposure, metabolic conditions including hypothyroidism or an overactive immune system.

  • You won’t have any down time but you should take some things into consideration. You may feel tired after your appointment so please rest and hydrate. Please avoid swimming in open water or pools for at least two weeks following your procedure. Avoid heavy sweating and clothes/fabrics which may cause friction for the first two weeks.

  • As with any procedure where the skin is broken there are risk factors. These may include infection, allergic reaction, granulomas and/or keloid formations.

  • Under the 1998 WHCRA law, regardless of the reason, if your insurance covers mastectomies they must provide the same coverage, including restoration.

  • You will resubmit the claim and ask for an out of network exception or gap exception. For this type of specialized work, there usually is not an artist in the network.

  • At this time, no. We are in the process of being able to submit claims however we are not quite there yet! In the meantime, we will provide you with a Letter of Medical Necessity “LOMN” and a detailed receipt with the necessary diagnosis and procedure codes needed for reimbursement.

  • Unfortunately, no. If your insurance currently covers mastectomies then you can be confident they will cover the Areola/Nipple Restoration. Please don’t hesitate to contact your insurance carrier to inquire on coverage prior to your appointment.

  • Yes! According to the CDC, approximately 1 out of every 100-breast cancer diagnosis is found in men. Everything applies!
